Holy week begins as Jesus arrives triumphantly in Jerusalem. Fulfilling a centuries old prophecy. The people celebrated, shouting; “Blessed is He who comes in the name of The Lord”. In 7 days, Jesus would once again triumph…this time, over sin and death!

From Mother Teresa to Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., history is filled with people who have pursued peace. People who have walked a road paved by the pierced hands of our Savior. As we remember MLK and the peaceful pursuit for equality and justice, let us remember what the scriptures say: “Blessed are the peace makers, for they will be called the children of God”.

The new year is a time to rededicate ourselves to the cause of Christ and the glory of God. It’s a time to hit our knees, surrender our will and live out our faith. It’s a time to come before God in worship, giving Him the honor He deserves. This year, it’s time to fix our gaze on Jesus and live life for Him and Him alone.

A lot has happened in one year. We’ve seen terrorism dominate the news and genocide and war all over the world. We’ve seen the racial divide grow larger by the day and witnessed unspeakable tragedies. Sometimes, life here on earth seems hopeless. As we come to the New Year, we need to stop and ask one question. Where does our hope come from? Real hope is found in God…who makes all things new.

This year has been a journey for us all. For some the road has brought joy and for others…pain. We look and see a broken world and are stunned by the chaos around us. Our hearts beat to the rhythm of uncertainty. As a new year begins, let us remember to turn our eyes upon Jesus. To look full in His wonderful face. Let us watch as the things of earth are dimmed by the light of His glory and grace.

Mary and Joseph traveled a great distance to get to Bethlehem. At the end of their journey, they were able to look at the face of the promised Messiah. The Wise Men traveled for the purpose of worshipping the only Son of God. This Christmas we will travel. We will head to church to celebrate the birth of our Savior. We will gather together to remember the gift of God’s grace. This Christmas, as the Wise Men did 2000 years ago…we will come to adore Jesus.

Christmas is so much more than a holiday. It’s more than family get togethers, presents under the tree and lights hanging on the house. Christmas is about God reaching down from Heaven. It’s about the birth of Jesus, our Savior. It’s about the Word becoming flesh and dwelling among us. Christmas is about grace and the promise of eternity. Simply put, Christmas is about Jesus.

It’s Christmas time again. Time for snow angels, snow ball fights and a trip down a white powdered slope. Between the shopping, wrapping, eating and traveling, it’s a miracle we make it out of “The Holiday’s” alive. What if we stopped for a moment and focussed on the real miracle of Christmas? What if we slowed down long enough to worship the Savior, to honor the Messiah, to give glory to the only begotten Son of God? It’s time we realized this is more than a holiday…this is Jesus day…this is Christmas.
